Lost and found

Yep, it’s been a while again, but I have a very legitimate excuse. Doug, Macy and I are now (almost) settled in our new house! We LOVE it here! I’ll post new pictures soon.
Today has been a crazy day. We have managed to lose and (thankfully) find our dogs in the last 24 hours. Harley and Montana have been staying at our old house this week because we’re waiting on the fence guy to build our fence at the new house. Doug went over last night to feed them and noticed the gate was wide open and the dogs were nowhere to be found. Usually if there’s a loose dog in the neighborhood all the other dogs let you know, but last night it was silent so Doug figured they had been out for a while. Doug drove around and put them on craigslist (leave it to a web developer to think of craigslist…I thought posterboard). I was asleep last night when he got home so I found out about it this morning at 5:30. I figured out a simple plan…I would go over to the house before work and if they weren’t back at the house already I’d just drive around and find them (can you tell I’ve never lost a pet before?) They weren’t at the house and the food Doug had left out was untouched. I drove around for 45 minutes and didn’t see any trace of them…that’s when the reality started to hit me. Doug said that he would check with the shelters and see if anyone had picked them up, but when I talked to him at 11 no one had seen them. We were both crushed because we had really hoped that someone had seen them and called animal control and they would be waiting for us there…or someone would call Doug’s cell phone (the number on their tags) first thing in the morning saying that they had them, but neither happened.
When I left work at 3:00 Doug told me that he had good news and no news. Animal control had picked up Montana on Kinnerly Rd (about a mile-ish from our house), but Harley wasn’t with him. Doug and I were really hoping they had stuck together. Montana is a pretty “street smart” dog, Harley on the other hand has no clue at all about the “outside world”. We like to compare Harley to the giraffe on “Madagascar” because he’s a bit high maintenance and timid. I was worried about Harley being out there without Montana to give him a little common sense, but I had renewed hope since Montana was still okay. My plan of action was to run by the old house and get the vet’s number incase someone had called the number on their tag then drive up and down Kinnerly Rd. a few times and head to Lowes to get “lost dog” sign supplies. I was pulling into the driveway and saw Harley standing on the front porch waiting for someone to let him in the house. When I pulled up he walked over to the car and wanted to get in when I opened the door. I was SO excited to see him…probably partially because I was glad to see him and partially because I was so impressed that he actually made it home on his own. We haven’t been able to pick up Montana yet because it was late in the day so he has to spend the night in jail before his dad goes to bail him out tomorrow. Harley has come to the new house (Doug and I were worried that he might try to get out to find Montana at the old house) has gotten a bath and is taking a good nap in the garage on our luggage (he’s such a diva dog). It’s such a relief to have our “puppies” back (or at least know where they are). Thanks to all of our friends and family who said prayers for our puppies throughout the day! I’ll put a picture of them up soon so everyone can see our sweet boys (who will probably be spoiled like crazy for a while) 🙂

  1. WILD! New house, New baby, New school year starting, why not throw missing dogs into the mix! LOL!! Glad the boys were found ok 🙂

  2. I’ll tell you what, you people should write a book! I can barely keep up. 🙂 I couldn’t be happier for you two that they are back home. And I must say, the house is just amazing. I’m still impressed by the “wooden shakes” on the outside of the house. So cool! Have a fun first week back at school. Don’t let all those boring school people put you to sleep!

  3. Oh yeah, and I completely forgot to mention the cutie who just smiles all the time. I think Uncle Bobby is her favorite non-family, family member. LOL But then again, I’m biased. She’s just tooo cute.

  4. Ok i read this and started tearing up…I’M A BIG BABY!!!! So glad that the fellas were found!!!
