First Haircuts

All 3 kids had their first professional haircuts in August.  JCPenny was giving free kids haircuts for the month of August, so I jumped at the chance. It was a crazy day that started with going to Macy’s new preschool to meet her teachers, Macy’s 4 year old check up (shots included), and finished with haircuts during lunch time…to say that I was nervous about this day would be an understatement.  We raced through meeting Macy’s teachers, were traumatized at the doctor’s appointment, and finally made it to JCPenny.  I really didn’t know what to expect from the kids, so I braced for impact.  The stylist we were supposed to see had called in sick, so there was going to be about a 30 minute wait.  I was less than thrilled, but the people in the salon were very accommodating (and the haircuts were free, so should I really be complaining?).  They had a TV set up in the back that was playing a kid friendly movie and a pot of coffee.  I was able to leave the boys in the stroller and hand out the sandwiches I had brought while all 3 were happily watching the movie…I ended up being thankful for our wait because it gave me a chance to sit and breathe for a minute.
When the stylist was ready for us I decided to take Logan first (while the other 2 were fine waiting in the back with the TV…this day was full of little miracles).  I thought he would be the hardest, but was just the opposite!  He must have my “touchy feely” genes because he completely zoned out and looked like he might fall asleep.

Steven was next.  His pictures say it all.

Lesson learned:  if you ever really want to make Steven smile…take him to get a haircut.  You would have thought he was in Disney World!
Last up was the wild card.  She’d already been intimidated by a new school, had an eye and hearing test, gotten a variety of “pokes”, and peed in a cup, so she was a little on edge.  She wasn’t thrilled about the idea, but I guess she figured that Logan and Steven survived so it couldn’t be that bad…and I even caught a smile.

Being the excellent parent I am, there was no end to my level of bribery to get through the day, so we all got ice cream when we were finished (the crown and sticker were from the treasure box at the doctor’s office).

It was one of those days that gave me a huge sense of accomplishment once it was over…not really because we checked off everything on the to do list, but that we survived!
Now, some before and afters (it’s hard to tell how badly the boys really needed a haircut in their before pictures because I wasn’t about to get them out of the stroller, but trust me, it was bad)…

Steven looked like a different child!  His hair isn’t usually that short in the front.

Macy actually got about 3 1/2 inches cut…it’s just hard to tell from this picture.
