In Other News…

Macy started potty training today (which is now yesterday). She is very excited about wearing her panties and sitting on the potty. I gave her a new “potty puppy” (a puppy that my stuffed animal fanatic can only hold while she’s sitting on the potty) and we’ve been watching potty song music videos all day (Donna, that video has been a huge hit! Thank you!!).
Steven’s speech therapist came over this morning so we didn’t start panty time until almost noon. Macy has had an accident once before after bath time and completely freaked out that she made a mess on the floor…I was hoping that would work to my advantage..and it did.
Her first accident was after lunch. She was standing by the back door and I heard her start to whine and say “What did I do?!”. So I got my chance to tell her that next time she felt that she needed to run to the potty. I also told her that after she peepeed in the potty she would get to wash her hands (one of her favorite things to do) and play with stickers so she was motivated.
After her nap she decided that she wanted to sit on the potty…for hours. We watched more potty songs on the potty…she even ate dinner on the potty (it was already in the kitchen). The funniest moment of the day was when she used her legs to scoot herself on the potty across the floor to ask Grams for more watermelon just so she wouldn’t have to get up.
I was determined for her to either have another accident or go in the potty before bedtime. She finally started to get wiggly so we guessed she was close. By now she was off the potty and dancing to the potty songs (I told you they were on ALL day). She stopped dancing and said “Mommy, I’m peepeeing!!” with a freaked out look on her face. So I told her to run to her potty and was praying that even one tiny drop would make it so we could celebrate. She dis better than that and got most of it in the potty. She was SO proud of herself! I was thankful that she was able to end her day with a victory. We went ahead and put on her pajamas and diaper for nighttime (so I could relax) then we had her first ceremonial flushing of the peepee, washed her hands, and played with her sticker book. She went to bed excited about getting to peepee in the potty again tomorrow, so hopefully we’ll have another successful day.
Aside from the potty training, it was really nice to get to spend the day focused on Macy. After spending so much time on the couch and disconnected I think we both enjoyed getting to hang out on the floor together (although mommy trying to get up off the floor was tricky). It’s so nice to be mommy again!!!!
