Christmas Photo Shoot

Macy and I just finished our first Christmas photo shoot trying to get a picture for our Christmas card (yep, we’re late as usual).  I had this vision of a perfect picture of Macy sitting in her Christmas dress in front of the tree smiling at the camera…if only our livingroom was a photography studio it might have worked.  I got her all situated in front of the tree only to realize that our tree is too bare at the bottom to get a good picture of her on the ground…not to mention that it is too skinny because you can see either the front door or the wall in all of the pictures.  I would have to be right up in Macy’s face to only get her and the tree in the shot…not so cute.  So then I tried to raise her up a bit by having her sit on a couch pillow with her boppy behind her so she didn’t go tumbling over which solved the problem of her being too low to the ground, but didn’t solve the problem of our tree still being too skinny.  Next I tried laying out the fabric that is our “tree skirt” to mask the fact that our tree is too skinny, but I pretty much needed fabric to drape from one end of the door, behind the tree, over to the other side (like a backdrop in a studio)…that wasn’t happening.  Finally in a moment of genius I realized that I did have enough fabric to hang it over the side of the couch and still have enough on the floor (think baby sized backdrop)….Well, by this time we’re already about 45 minutes into this disaster, so Macy’s smiles have long faded…now I’m just hoping for a decent blank stare.  I get a few shots that are okay and move into our wardrobe change….since Macy’s 1st Christmas card picture was her ultrasound picture with a santa hat, I thought it would be cute to have another picture of her in a santa hat…so I stripped her down to her diaper and balanced what seemed to be the biggest santa hat ever on her head.  After a few quick santa hat shots I realized that my moment of playing photographer was over and it was time to admit defeat and put the poor little overworked model to bed.  I’ve looked back through the pictures (all 75 of them) and I think I might have 2 or 3 that we might could use…now I know why people leave this up to the professionals!
I’ll post some of the pictures once I know which (if any) we are going to use for the card…I’d hate to ruin the surprise. 🙂

  1. You know, it’s just no fun when you try to do something that should be really simple, and then realize it’s soooooooo much more complicated than it needs to be.
Can’t wait to see the pictures though. She’s such a good sport.
