W is for Wheat Bread

Brad’s baking inspired mom and I to try our hand at bread making.  We found a whole wheat recipe in her bread machine’s manual and decided to give it a try.  We put it in the bread machine to mix, knead, and rise.  Next we moved it into pans (one large loaf and one little loaf…we tried little rolls like Brad with our first batch, but they had to be handled too much and weren’t very fluffy) and put it in a warm oven to rise some more.  After a long time of rising into the hot oven it went.  I’ve heard horror stories about homemade wheat bread turning out more like a door stop than soft bread, but ours (miraculously) is really good!  Who knows…I might be scratching bread off our grocery list! 😉
