Where's the bunny?

I love working with kids.  You can be a complete dork and they’ll look at you like you’ve lost your mind, but love you all the same (maybe even more).  I had a funny experience on Friday with my kids at school…now this was funny to me, but it was also 45 minutes before the kids went home on the day that I’d had 4 1/2 hours of sleep the night before, so it really might not be funny at all to a well rested person…  😉
We just started studying about animals in science and on Friday we were talking about animals’ habitats.  I was flipping through a book and we were talking about the pictures of different animals and their habitats while my class was sitting on the carpet.  Different kids were asking questions about the animals when one little boy asked, “where’s the bunny?”, so I pointed to the picture and said, “the rabbit’s right here.”  Other kids were talking and asking questions and the same boy asked, “where’s the bunny?” and I answered the same way I had done before, “the rabbit’s right here”.  Then he did it 3 more times and I answered him the exact same way all 3 times.  I think it was the lack of sleep because he asked and I answered the same question 5 times before I realized we weren’t communicating….what was really funny was that by the time we had gone back and forth 4 times my entire class was silent looking at both of us like we had lost our minds.  He knew that bunnies lived underground, but wasn’t making the connection that bunnies ARE rabbits, so he just kept asking to figure out where the bunnies were in the picture and didn’t think that I was answering him.  Once I reminded him that bunnies are rabbits we all cracked up that it took the 2 of us that long to answer a simple question.  It’s times like that my poor kids realize their teacher has lost her mind (but they love me anyway) 🙂
