Updates

We are so thankful that Steven is continuing to do well.  He was on CPAP the first day after he was born, then he moved to a small tube (that I can’t remember the name of), as of yesterday he’s breathing completely on his own.  Yesterday he also started having milk through a little tube in his mouth.  His body has tolerated that well, so they are going from eating every 6 hours to every 3.  His biliruben was up, so he’s been under lights for a couple of days and those numbers are coming down.  His blood count is back up and so far none of his blood tests have shown signs of infection.  His doctor did a  lumbar puncture today to test some spinal fluid for infection in the brain (he hasn’t shown signs, but they need to check so if something is there they can get him on antibiodics).  His doctor said he did well during the test (it’s like getting an epidural).  They should have the first test results back in 24 hours.  His doctor said that he has lost weight (typical in all babies…just has more impact on premies), but should be gaining weight again next week.  He has had some decelerations in his heartrate, but so far he has been able to bring it back up on his own.  They are keeping an eye on it because if it gets to the point where he can’t bring it back up they will need to put him on caffine until his heart matures a little more.
Please pray that his condition will improve each day and that he won’t have any big setbacks along the way.  Also please pray for his doctors and nurses.  That they will have wisdom with each decision they make and will give him the love and touches he needs while he’s in their care.
I’ll keep you posted! 🙂
Please keep praying
