"Oink Oink"…I mean "Ahoy!"

Ever since I found out I was pregnant I had the grand plan of dressing Macy, Steven, and “the baby” as the 3 Little Pigs for Halloween this year.  I figured that this would be the last year that I could probably convince Macy to go with what I wanted her to dress up as, so that was my plan.  Before Logan was born, I had grand plans of creatively making their costumes (and of coarse the perfect picture of my piggies…yeah, right!).  Reality painted a much different picture.  Sleep deprivation sucks my creative juices dry…and even if I had a creative idea, I’m WAY too tired to make it happen, so mom and I found pig hats at walmart and I was going to make them pink shirts that said “Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?”.  I was still pretty excited about my idea until the night before Macy’s costume parade at school.  I was trying to get her excited about being one of my dream piggies…she wasn’t having it.  Macy loves the movie Tangled.  She’s a fan of Rapunzel, but she likes the “pirates” in the movie even more, so she was set on being a pirate.  Bummer.  I tried to figure out how to create a pirate costume from things we had at home, but I couldn’t come up with anything.  Doug (who knows that I would have probably stayed up all night trying to make the perfect costume) told me to put my homemade ideas aside and just run to Target and get one.  I loaded up Logan and went to Target expecting to find the perfect costume for my little pirate…I was so wrong!  Apparently everyone else in Columbia wanted to be a pirate this year as well because there was nothing!!  Panic!!  It was already 8:45, so off I went to the next store.  Two hours and SIX stores later, my very cranky 3 month old and I returned home with two pirate costumes (a ‘boy” costume and a “girl” costume…thank goodness I got the boy costume because Macy looked at the girl costume and said, “That’s not a pirate, that’s a dress!”).
The morning of her costume parade I got her out of bed and told her that she was going to get to wear her costume to school.  She was so excited to see her costume, but would have nothing to do with wearing it to school.  THREE HOURS, SIX STORES, and a VERY FUSSY 3 MONTH OLD and she wasn’t going to wear it?!?!  Macy isn’t a fan of change…at all…so I’m not sure why I was so surprised that she didn’t want to wear it.  I told her that she could just wear her pumpkin shirt and jeans, so she opted for that.  Doug took her costume with them just in case, but I was doubtful.  I just wanted her to have fun and hoped that the morning’s drama hadn’t dampened the day.
Omie came over and we loaded up the boys for the costume parade.  Doug met us there and didn’t say anything about the costume, so imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw my little pirate parading on the sidewalk!  I was so excited and what made it even better was that Macy was so happy.  The classes were parading around the courtyard of the church on the sidewalk, but Macy saw us and ran through the grass squealing toward us.  She kept saying “look! I’m a pirate!”  She had so much fun and my mommy heart was so happy.
