First Haircuts

Macy and Steven had their first haircuts a couple of weeks ago.  I have wanted to cut Macy’s hair for a while.  The only haircut she’d had before was when Omie cut off the baby hair on the back of her head that didn’t fall out with the rest of it so it looked like a rat tail and freaked me out (still makes me shudder)…and I don’t count that as an official haircut because it was just one little rat tail of hair.  Macy’s hair had gotten really long, but was thin at the ends because that was still (post-rat tail) baby hair.  Steven had his adorable curls in the back, but they were starting to get long enough to be considered a mullet if his hair wasn’t really curly that day and his straight as a board bangs were getting in his eyes.
So one night after baths I was feeling spunky and brought out the scissors.  Mom cut Steven’s bangs while he sat in my lap.  She did an awesome job!  They’re shorter, but aren’t straight across his forehead.  I took a shot at the sweet curls.  I have to admit that it pained me a little because I know once they’re gone they won’t be back, but he really needed it.  My work wasn’t as flawless as mom’s.  I was nervous that he was going to turn his head and the scissors were going to cut his neck.  Thankfully he still has enough curls on top to cover my shabby job. 😉  Macy’s hair was really easy because it was just a straight cut across the back.  I cut about 2 inches off, but you can’t really tell because the bottom was so thin.  It looks SO much better though!!
Unfortunately I didn’t think about before and after pictures, so I just have during pictures.  I did save their hair for their baby books though.  I was surprised at how much darker Steven’s hair is than Macy’s.  I see them everyday, but I guess I never see their heads close enough together (without it ending in tears) and still to really ponder their hair colors. Now Macy asks if she can have another haircut every time she takes a bath. I’m thinking she would be really cute with a bob, but I’d definitely save that for the pros!! Yikes!

Happy kids after haircuts!
