A trip to the firehouse

Mom and I thought it would be great to go visit a firehouse before we left.  Macy and Steven love firetrucks and I had great photo ops dancing in my head, but like most grand ideas you get as a parent, it didn’t go as expected.  The firefighters were very nice.  They turned on the lights and told us that the kids could climb anywhere they wanted.  And what did my children want to do? Run.  They could have cared less that they were inches from a fire truck, all they saw was open space to run.  So here are pictures of them running in front of a firetruck.  I even dressed Steven in his fire truck shirt…have I learned nothing as a parent?!?!

Thankfully Logan was sociable with the firemen.

I did convince them to climb on the truck while no one was looking (and when they finally got tired of running).  Steven was excited about getting up…

but wanted to get down as soon as he was up there.

Once Macy saw Steven climb up, she wanted to give it a try.

This is typical Steven when you tell him that his time of freedom outdoors is over.

On our way back to the car Macy found a dandelion that looked perfect for blowing.  I told her that if she blew it really hard she could watch all of the little petals (what are those little things called anyway?) fly away.  Little did I know that this dandelion had super glue holding it’s petals in place.  I thought she was going to hyperventilate trying to blow them off!  I finally had to do the old “frantically wave it in the air like there’s a spider on your arm” trick.  Problem solved, but it did earn me one of those “mom’s really lost it” looks.

Mom and I decided to try the fire truck idea again next summer…I will get my kids picture sitting on the front of a fire truck and smiling gleefully at the camera…eventually.
