Ah ha!!

Logan has decided that since he’s such an easy baby during the day, he should get his share of our attention at night. Thankfully not the sleeping time of night, but he’s found his witching hours between 6pm and midnight. He doesn’t cry constantly (and for that I’m SO grateful), but he’s just unsettled. He’ll act like he wants to sleep, but he fights it. He seems like he wants his paci, but nope. Maybe he’s hungry? Well, he’ll always eat, but it doesn’t help. He has to be held, but he’s not a huge fan of swaying, bouncing, or rocking yet.

I realize that this is the best time of day for him to be fussy because at least he’s the only child awake and it’s not causing us to lose any extra sleep, but it makes eating dinner and getting anything done very tricky.

That is until last night. Last night I decided to walk around the house with him and he passed out! I was scared to put him down, so I just sat and held him while he slept, but even that was so much better than trying to solve his fussiness. Tonight I tried again and was able to put him down for a tummy nap for 2 1/2 hours!! Doug and I ate dinner at the same time!!!! Hopefully this will work for at least a week before he changes his mind.

And can I just mention the irony that the baby who was on bed rest with me for 4 months is soothed by walking…more proof that we both hated bed rest. ;)

First bottle with Daddy (Technically this isn’t the 1st bottle that Doug gave Logan, but it was close. ;) )

First Bath

Macy was surrounded by mommy, daddy, and grams for her first bath.  The video camera was rolling.  Photographs were taken.  It was an event.

Steven was with mommy and grams for his first bath.  The video camera was rolling, but I completely forgot about a picture (oops!).  It was much calmer than Macy’s first bath with the 2nd child learning curve, but it was still an event.

Logan’s first bath was with mommy…that’s it…but have no fear, I was determined to make sure we had just as much photographic evidence of this even for the 3rd child as we did for the 1st two.

Macy and Steven were napping (thankfully) when Logan had a huge blowout, so I knew it was time for a bath.  I have to admit that my set up for this bath was genius.  I put the tub on the counter next to the sink and the changing pad on the island right behind the sink.  I was able to undress him on the changing pad, then I put his towel down on the changing pad to be ready for him after his bath.  He wasn’t crazy about my cold wet hands picking him up to put him in the tub, but he loved the warm water.  The bath itself went pretty well…except that his crazy mother kept trying to take video or a picture instead of staying on the task of bathing. Obviously Logan wasn’t into being photographed naked.

He wasn’t really impressed with the drying off process (for the same photo/video taking reason).

But he decided that it wasn’t so bad once it was all over.

And it does lead into an awesome nap!!

Logan’s 2nd bath was after an even bigger blowout.  Macy and Steven were awake for that bath, so imagine the same tub/changing pad set up, but with Macy standing on a chair on one side and Steven sitting in his high chair screaming because he wants to be the one in the water…ahh, fun times! ;)

Logan…3 1/2 weeks

1 Comment family blog, logan

Logan has changed a lot in the week and a half that he’s been home.  He came home eating 2oz. every 3 hours, now he’s up to 3oz. every 3 hours.  He’s a great eater!  He usually finishes his bottles even if he sleeps while he eats.  He’s also the best nurser of all 3 of our kiddos.  We usually still have to wake him up to eat, but every once in a while he’ll be hungry enough to wake himself up.  He doesn’t cry much yet, but I know it’s coming the closer we get to his due date.

The day after he came home he weighed 6lbs. 12oz.  I don’t know how much he weighs now, but I can tell he’s gained weight.  His long legs are finally starting to get a little meat on them.

He likes to cluster his awake times instead of staying awake a little while after every feeding.  Sometimes he’ll stay awake an hour and a half after a meal and sometimes he’ll fall right back to sleep.  This is great during the day…not so much at night.

Like his big brother, Logan is a loud baby.  He doesn’t cry much yet (but I know that will come the closer we get to his due date), but he moans and groans every time he moves…and it’s LOUD!  He has to be in a really deep sleep to be sleeping quietly.

I think he’s going to be a daddy’s boy like Steven…he has the outfit for it.

This was his first tummy nap attempt.  He loved sleeping on his tummy in the hospital, but he wasn’t feeling it today.  I have a feeling that will change over time as well.

Logan has the coolest stuff

2 Comments family blog, logan, macy, steven

So far Macy and Steven haven’t shown any signs of jealousy of Logan, but now that they’re realizing that Logan has all of the cool stuff that might change!

Macy thought Logan’s chair was perfect for lounging…Steven thought it was a great spot to read…thankfully Logan couldn’t have cared less. ;)

Welcome home

3 Comments family blog, logan

I got the call from Logan’s neonatologist at about 10am yesterday telling me that he would be ready to come home 2 hours after his circumcision. I was elated, but sent into crazy mommy nesting mode. I was expecting a little more warning and our room needed some serious tlc. I got everything cleaned up (with the help of Ruth and mom) and started waiting…and waiting…and waiting for his nurse to let me know they had finished his circumcision. I felt like a high school girl waiting for a cute guy to call…pick up phone to check for a dial tone, hang up phone, repeat 400 times. Logan’s nurse finally called at 4pm to tell me that his circumcision was finished and that we could pick him up.

I hadn’t told Macy that he was coming home because I wanted to make sure she took a nap, so I told her as Doug and I were leaving…and conveniently used bringing Logan home as a potty bribe. ;)

By the time we went through all of his discharge papers, we didn’t get home until 6:30 and Macy was SO excited! Grams and Omie were happy he was home and I don’t think that Steven even noticed that Logan was in the car seat. Macy had Logan’s entire day planned by the time she went to bed. She probably stalled bedtime by a half hour just telling us about how she was going to rock Logan, change his diaper, get him dressed, that she could feed him with Emmie’s (her baby doll) bottle, and that she was going to be a good big sister (melt my heart). :)

Once we got Macy and Steven to bed the rest of the night was pretty typical. Logan is loud…possibly even louder than Steven. He has to moan and groan every time he moves…every time. He needs to be swaddled completely to sleep without his paci. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep him swaddled in the bassinet, so I spent most of the night holding his paci in his mouth. He did let me sleep about 20 minutes before his 5am feeding. Thankfully, mom offered to keep him in the living room between his 5am and 8am feedings, so I got a solid 2 hours then.

Today has been very busy. Logan had his first follow up appointment with our pediatrician at 9, and then Steven had his 18 months well visit at 10. Mom brought Steven at 10 and switched babies with me so I didn’t have to take them both at the same time. (I’ll give Steven his own post to brag about his 18 months stats).

Logan weighs 6lbs. 12oz. now and his bilirubin is down 2 points since Sunday! His neonatologist had told me that he doesn’t qualify for the RSV vaccine because he was 35 weeks (babies have to be 34 weeks or less…we missed it by 1 day!!). Since our pediatrician knows the struggle that we had last winter with Steven, she said that she would submit an application for Logan and try to get the shots for him…especially since he’s already had respiratory issues. Please pray that he’s approved. I can’t imagine how paranoid I’ll be from October to March if he’s not able to get those shots!!

The rest of the day has been exhausting, but good. Steven has realized that “baby” (which is definitely one of the cutest words he says) is sticking around for a little while. We haven’t let him get too close, but he’s been really good with sharing his time with Logan.

Macy has decided that Logan is her baby. I think she would stay by his side all day if we would let her. She wants so badly to do everything for him…and if she’s not trying to do something for him then she’s tickling him or fixing his paci or just admiring him. It’s very sweet, but we definitely have to stay close by because even though she knows we have to be gentle, she doesn’t always understand what that should look like. Hopefully she’ll get used to him being around soon.

We’re so thankful to have Logan home…it’s great to have all of our family under one roof!! Thank you for all of your prayers that played such a big role in Logan’s homecoming. :)

Little Boss

2 Comments family blog, logan

Look who pulled out his feeding tube! He decided that he’s too big for such babyish things…and just to prove his point he’s done well with all of his feedings for 24 hours.

Dr Bacon will probably circumcise him in the morning. She came by to check on him yesterday but it was before Dr Marsh put in his orders.

He passed his car seat test last night, so I’m thinking Tuesday will be his big day as long as he keeps up the good work with his feedings!! :)

Logan’s Update

No Comments family blog, logan

Logan redeemed himself today. His doctor said that he’s done well with all of his feedings since our sleepy nursing attempt yesterday. I went to nurse him at 2 and, although he was wide awake, he wasn’t thrilled about eating. He got just enough to give him a warm snuggly feeling and would quit, but after I tortured him for a few minutes and the sugar from his first sips (and all the sour gummy worms I ate) hit him he was able to eat and sleep at the same time.

His doctor ordered his circumcision today. They didn’t know if they’d do it today or tomorrow, but either way it’s another step closer to the door! :)

I can’t blame him for not waking up to eat though…I wouldn’t want to leave those snuggly blankets either.
